Our History

Founded in 1692, Rosslyn Hill Unitarian Chapel is one of the oldest and largest Unitarian congregations in Britain.  You can use the links on this page to learn more about us, our beliefs and our Chapel History and Art.

You can also find out more by coming to a  service. We welcome people of all religious faiths and none. We encourage each person to seek truth and meaning for themselves, in the company of others with the same aims in mind. We draw inspiration from all the world religions, as well as the arts, sciences, and psychology. You can find much more about our beliefs on the page devoted to What is Unitarianism?

At Rosslyn Hill, we have services every Sunday. We have a strong tradition of music with our own choir and we have an active Children’s Programme and crèche. You can find out more about forthcoming services (and other events) in the What’s On section or in our newsletter Open Mind. You can also listen to recent services.

As well as being a congregation, we are a community, with an active social side. There are lots of events and groups for members and friends, including a choir, book and poetry groups and Pot Luck lunches. Unitarians have a strong commitment to social justice and our Social Action Committee organises and supports initiatives ranging from supporting Amnesty International’s social justice campaigns to running a cold weather centre for the homeless in our own chapel. The chapel is a registered charity owned and run by its members, so we also have the appropriate membership and governance arrangements.

Our beautiful chapel and our other buildings in the middle of Hampstead are available for ceremonies to mark rites of passage – births, marriages, deaths and other significant occasions. We are happy to conduct ceremonies for non-Unitarians and the chapel is licensed for marriage, civil partnerships, and same-sex marriages.

The chapel and other buildings are also available for hire for non-religious events like concerts and meetings. You can find out more in the venue hire section.

If you’d like to find out more, feel free to contact us.
