It includes readings, hymns, meditation, music and a sermon. The morning service also includes a story for the younger children before they leave us for Children’s Programme and crèche in the Hall with their teachers. Following the service, we have coffee and tea and social time.
Music is an important part of our morning services. We have a splendid pipe organ and a Steinway concert piano, and our music director arranges for other professional musicians to contribute to the musical parts of the service. We also have a choir that meets regularly and is open to both members and non-members of the Chapel.
The Evening Service is a smaller, more intimate, contemplative circle of around ten adults who share reflections on the topic presented by the minister or guest speaker.
Worship in our tradition is a time to celebrate the gift of life, to renew our hope, and to explore how we can live more fully. Services are intended to help us deepen our relationships, service to others, ability to love oneself, our sense of gratitude and our spiritual faith. Preachers in our tradition are granted full ‘freedom of the pulpit’ to ‘speak the truth in Love’ as they are so moved. Members in return always assume ‘freedom of the pew’ to believe and act as their conscience dictates. We explore injustice in the larger world and our responsibility to act with justice and compassion.
In the course of a church year, we acknowledge religious events from a number of traditions including, Christmas, Passover, Easter, Diwali, and the Solstices and Equinoxes. We are always open to suggestions for new celebrations.
We always suggest that the best way to learn about our Unitarian approach to worship is to come and experience it for yourself! You will find a warm welcome here any Sunday.
Weddings and Rites of Passage Ceremonies
Our beautiful chapel and our other buildings are available for ceremonies to mark rites of passage – births, marriages, deaths and other significant occasions. Our minister is happy to conduct ceremonies for non-Unitarians and the chapel is licensed for civil partnerships. More
