Young artists from Channing School wowed visitors with their amazing 2D and 3D creations inspired by the Chapel’s Celebrating Black Lives project. The exhibition brought together a mix of people — proud families of the artists, curious passersby, and members of the congregation — all enjoying the art and the welcoming atmosphere of the Chapel (and cake!).
Live music from a pianist and saxophonist added to the experience, creating the perfect mood to reflect on the inspiring works. Stunning ceramics of icons like Naomi Campbell, Martin Luther King Jr., and Will Smith amazed visitors with their detail, while other pieces drew from modern artists such as Basquiat. The variety of styles, from painting and sketching to mixed media and textiles, made the show truly unique and demonstrated the portraiture skills the students had been learning.
I’m sure the students gained much from learning about these inspirational figures, as did we as their audience. One visitor summed it up perfectly: “Keep creating!”
